about the

TGC Trust

Who are we?

The TGC Trust is a community of principals, teachers and parents who saw the need for not just academical challenges for our gifted children but also creating the opportunity to socialise and learn with like minded peers. Our vision is to holistically nurture gifted children and their whanau, so they grow to be well balanced adults empowered by their potential. We aim to provide a nurturing environment that appropriately advocates for, educates those around, and provides support for those involved to enrich the lives of children who have unique needs as gifted students.

From very humble beginnings in 2014, with only a handful of students and a half-day programme, we teamed up with the New Zealand Centre for Gifted Education (NZCGE) a year later. This partnership allowed us to offer the nationwide MindPlus programme in our region. More importantly we established strong ties with local primary and intermediate schools to ensure the best possible support for our students, consistent cooperation and flow of information.
In 2020 we decided to develop our own curriculum and programme - The Head Office. It is tailored towards the needs of our Taranaki community, giving us the flexibility to respond to student interests, needs and local requirements even more.
The Taranaki Gifted Community Trust also runs several professional development sessions a year on topics related to giftedness. These sessions are free for the entire staff of our contributing schools and available to all other schools in Taranaki for a small fee. The TGC Trust is the only organization in the region that offers a tailored learning programme for gifted students and is endorsed by the Taranaki Principals Association.
